A member of Torres Plaz & Araujo since 1988, Guillermo is currently President and Managing Partner at the Firm, a member of the Board of Directors and head of the business-corporate consultancy practice at the Firm. Before forming part of TPA, he worked at Chadbourne, Parke, Whiteside & Wolf (currently Chadbourne & Parke LLC) in its New York offices as a Foreign Associate (1983-1984).

His professional practice extends to both advising business clientele and individuals in their day-to-day affairs. He has been very active in national and international negotiations of mergers, acquisitions, project finance; public and private issues; consortia, joint ventures and other forms of associations; negotiations of contracts with government institutions and other State-owned entities, including real estate developments; structuring and placement of investments for domestic and foreign investors; protection of assets and investments; interpretation and application of bilateral and multilateral investment treaties.

His practice also extends to advising on state and municipal tax matters and estate planning. He attends to both domestic clients and clients from the rest of America, Europe and Asia.

  • Advice in the negotiation of contracts with government institutions and other State-owned entities, real estate developments, structuring and placement of investments for domestic and foreign investors, and provides advice in asset and investment protection, and also the application and interpretation of bilateral and multilateral investment treaties.
  • Advice on State and Municipal taxes.
  • Advice in estate planning.

AFILIATIONS

Guillermo is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and of the Inter-American Bar Association (Venezuelan Chapter). He is also representative of TPA on the Capital Markets Committee of the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VenAmCham). He is a former member of the Board of Directors of Mavesa, S.A., from 1994 to 2000, and representative of TPA before the Venezuelan-Colombian Economic Integration Chamber (Cavecol), where he coordinated its Legal Committee (2005-2006).
